CrossFit Games 2021 is nearing and many participants are excited. Other than the traditional CrossFit Games, events for women will be held. The women's competition, Pegboard contests, Cutting system and Reebok equipment are all well-known. But, do you really know what to expect? Continue reading to find out! Competition for women

The 2021 Crossfit Games' women's competition started this morning with the swim race. Jonne Koski was the winner in the first race. Tia Clair Toomey Orr was also victorious. After maintaining her lead throughout competition, Koski was declared the overall winner. Tall and Eramo O'Connell finished second and third, respectively. It was the first Games event by women. The women's side wanted to complete the podium.

The women's contest is filled with high-level athletes. The field includes nine athletes. One of them is a 19-year old powerhouse, who won the Australian competition last year. Other contenders are Australian athlete Kara Saunders, who finished second in Australia and eleventh worldwide in 2020. Andrea Nisler (who competed as a team in the 2018 division, finishing third in the United States and fifteenth overall for 2020) is another rising star. These athletes will be joined by Sara Sigmundsdottir from Iceland, who was awarded the first place medal at the World Crossfit Games earlier in the year.

Pegboard contest

Pegboard at Crossfit Games 2020 was a first. Along with dumbbell overhead squats and double-unders, it was included in the Games' summer Olympic programme. Toomey-Orr, who won 30 games events, holds the record of most wins in one Games event. Sager won Event 11 men's and received his third Games win. There were several tie in the contest but Toomey Orr's dominance was too strong to stop him winning.

CrossFit Games are a competition where athletes focus on ten skills that improve their physical fitness: speed, agility, cardiovascular endurance, strength and flexibility. Pegboard competition tests competitors' grip strength, coordination, and speed. Two wooden pegs are held between the hands of each competitor to gauge their grip strength. The competition was fierce and the athletes felt a sense accomplishment after finishing the Pegboard.

Cutting system

CrossFit Games uses a cutting system to judge individual competition. This is not as extreme as past Games cuts, but it is very different this year. Because the competition is made up of 15 events, a cut to 30 athletes after the seventh or eighth event is very likely. Another question remains: how will CrossFit adjust the points spread following cuts? It's probable that the scoring table used for the 2019 games will remain nearly the same as the one used in 2021.

The CrossFit Games' largest ever field, consisting of 236 athletes this year, is the largest ever. The first six events result in major cuts. The field is reduced down to 75 athletes. The top 30 then compete in a sprint couplet to determine the top ten. The top 20 athletes will then compete in the six remaining events. Castro's system was strongly criticised by former Games participants, who felt that cuts were too substantial.

Equipment from Reebok

Reebok has released new CrossFit Games shoes, clothing and equipment. The Nano X1 shoes are the new model. They can be used for multiple fitness goals. Reebok claims this shoe is "the shoe that will fit all your fitness needs," but it's more like a regular training shoe. The shoe's upper is made from DuPont's Kevlar material, which promotes durability and breathability. The shoe's responsiveness is enhanced by the RopePro tech and a firm midsole.

CrossFit's agreement with Reebok will end at 2020. No title sponsor will be available for the Games. Reebok has sponsored the Games for more than a decade. It is now evident that their involvement in the Games will decrease. Reebok will no longer sponsor the Games' prize money, but it will continue to manufacture all the athletic apparel and equipment used by athletes, including the Reebok gear. However, Reebok CrossFit Games will no longer be called the company.
